Code of Practice
Rathkeale College has been accepted as a signatory and has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of international students published by the Ministry of Education. Copies of the Code are available on request from the school or from the New Zealand Ministry of Education website at www.minedu.govt.nz/goto/international.

Enrolment
Rathkeale requires student reports for the two years prior to application (you will need to supply English translations of these). Successful applicants are students who work hard, have a good attitude and are motivated to learn. Rathkeale College does enrol students with limited English but will often recommend a short intensive English course at one of the English Language Schools in New Zealand before starting so as to ensure a smooth and productive commencement of study.
English Support
It is advisable for students to have reached Intermediate Standard of English if they are to learn successfully in other academic areas. Students are assessed on entry and an individual programme is developed for them. The aim is to reach New Zealand University Entry standard by Year 13 (18 years old), which is set by either the TOEFL or IELTS international examinations.
Our specialist English for Speakers of Other Languages teacher ensures that our International students progress quickly with their English Language skills. Students are tested internally on a regular basis to determine progress and achievement.
